William H. Pugh, V

Managing Partner



Mr. Pugh, V is Managing Partner of Kane, Pugh, Knoell, Troy & Kramer LLP.  He focuses his practice primarily on the defense of physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice litigation. He gained his initial trial experience while serving as an Assistant District Attorney for New York County from 1986 to 1989. After prosecuting multiple criminal cases, Mr. Pugh joined the firm in 1989. He has twenty-two years of trial experience in two states and all of the counties in Southeast Pennsylvania.

Mr. Pugh recently began serving a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Board of Governors.   One of 12 zone governors who serve on the PBA board, Pugh represents Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery county lawyers. Mr. Pugh served as President of the Montgomery Trial Lawyers Association in 1999. He served on the Montgomery Bar Association’s Board of Directors and was President of the Association in 2006. He has been Chair of several Montgomery Bar Committees including House (1989-1991), Program and Events (1991-1997), Law Reporter (1997) and Appellate Practice (1998). He was an editor of the Montgomery County Law Reporter from 1992 to 1994. Mr. Pugh is currently Chairmen of the Judiciary Committee.

Mr. Pugh is a member of the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute and Pennsylvania Defense Institute. He served as Co-Chair of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute’s Professional Liability Committee from 1993 to 1996. In that capacity Mr. Pugh authored several articles on professional risk management. He is frequently asked to speak on that topic to hospitals, physicians, and members of the Bar.

Married to Mary Coyne Pugh and the father of four daughters, Mr. Pugh has coached several sports in Springfield Township. He was the long time President of the St. Genevieve CYO program and is currently Eucharistic Minister at St. Genevieve Church. Mr. Pugh serves on the President’s Council of The Mount St. Joseph Academy.
